I am pleased to hand the first issue 2006 of Archives of Medical Science (AMS) over to you. I hope the articles included are interesting for you and will encourage you to become familiar with the following issues of AMS. I am waiting for your suggestions and opinions. I will be glad to receive any comments or letters to the Editor regarding the manuscripts we have already published. This form of communication between authors and readers is the best way to exchange opinions and take up the matter-of-fact debate.
First I would like to thank all the people who helped me with this issue of Archives of Medical Science: Dr. Jacek Rysz from the 2nd Department of Family Medicine, Medical University in Lodz, Poland, Dr. Marcin Barylski from the Department of Internal Diseases and Cardiological Rehabilitation, Medical University in Lodz, Poland, and obviously special thanks to the Publishing Editor – Ms Miroslawa Huk, for her well-aimed advice and commitment.
I would like to send special thanks to Prof. Cezary Watala for presenting his great educational review entitled: How to plan experiment – I. Randomization: current fad or (ever)lasting fashion? The following article is a continuation of the first manuscript published in the 4th issue 2005. I hope this article is as often read as the first part, which is the most downloaded manuscript among all those having been published so far.
I would also like to invite all AMS’s Readers to acquaint themselves with the great review articles by Prof. Anne Greenough entitled: Pulmonary hypoplasia and congenital renal anomalies, and by Prof. Bernhard J. Schaller entitled: Trigemino-cardiac reflex: A recently discovered “oxygen-conserving” response? The potential therapeutic role of a physiological reflex. I hope it will be only a beginning of such interesting review articles in Archives of Medical Science this year.
I am very happy that in the fourth issue we can publish next great articles written by young researchers (An analysis of coronarography results and selected cardiac risk factors in patients with acute coronary syndrome according to the level of cardiac troponin T by Dr. Agnieszka Dębska). I hope it is going to stimulate other young scientists to send us their manuscripts, and to present the outcomes of their studies in AMS.
Finally, I would like to inform you that Archives of Medical Science has been indexed in EMBASE, Excerpta Medica Database, Chemical Abstracts CAS, Scopus, CAB Abstracts, and Global Health Databases. We are waiting for the results of indexation in Cambridge Scientific Abstracts and after the 2nd issue of AMS we will try to index the journal in Thompson® International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA), Index Medicus/Medline and ISI Expanded List.
Once again, I would like to invite all scientists to join our Review Board. In my opinion it is a great chance to widen their knowledge and to meet great scientists from all over the world. You should simply put your personal information on the web site: www.ams.termedia.pl in the section New reviewer. Finally, I am happy to announce that the average period of the review process of the manuscripts accepted for the first number was about 3 weeks. All the members of the Editorial Board of Archives of Medical Science deserve credit for this achievement.

Nice reading!
