Venous leg ulcers as a chronic and progressing wounds are difficult to treat, often recurrent or stop in the first phases of healing process – the most often in inflammatory phase. As a result of incorrect treatment or absence of any treatment they progress and change into extensive, surrounding the leg wounds which are susceptible to infections. The treatment is difficult but possible on condition that principal rules of conservative treatment will be incorporated – compression therapy combined with local treatment and holistic care. Benefits of compression therapy include decrease of venous hypertension, activation of venous return, fibrinolysis stimulation, elimination of natrium from subcutaneous tissue, decrease of swelling, increase of oxygenation and providing favourable environment for healing process.
The aim of the study was to present the most important rules of multilayer compression therapy in the treatment of venous leg ulcers.
