The aim of the study was to compare signs and symptoms of surgically treated patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
Material and methods: Retrospective studies were conducted in the Surgery Clinic of Biziel Hospital in Bydgoszcz. Forty patients with ulcerative colitis (22 patients) or Crohn’s disease (18 patients) were included in the study.
Results: Study group characteristics showed statistically significant differences in age for the two groups (Z=6.37; p<0.05). Other characteristics (gender, duration of hospitalization) showed no statistically significant differences.
Conclusions: Surgical treatment of Crohn’s disease is generally associated with disease complications and longer time of hospitalization compared with ulcerative colitis.
