Aims and scope

Pielęgniarstwo Chirurgiczne i Angiologiczne /Surgical and Vascular Nursing is a quarterly journal publishing original papers in the area of surgical and vascular nursing (including case reports) and review papers and abstracts from conferences and meetings, and letters to the Editors. The journal is originally published in the print version and in the electronic version on the journal website (http://www.termedia.pl/Czasopismo/Pielegniarstwo_Chirurgiczne_i_Angiologiczne-50).

Publication charge

Please note that since 15th October 2023 there is an obligatory charge (= 100 Euro/480 PLN) for each manuscript submitted and accepted for publication in Surgical and Vascular Nursing. Termedia Sp. z o.o. does not pay bank transfer costs. There are no additional charges for colour photos and other graphics.

Authors should send us proper postal and e-mail addresses and all necessary data for the invoice including the editorial number of your publication. We shall send an invoice for payment after articles are accepted for publication. During a bank transfer please indicate your name in addition to the editorial number of the paper (e.g. John Smith, PCHIA No. PCHIA-00004-2023-01).

PayPal (EUR) is the preferred way of payment. However, if this is impossible, payments can be made directly to the following bank accounts:

The fee applies only to the cost of preparing / developing the article for publication in the journal. The fee has no effect on the acceptance of the article for publication. All articles submit by editorial system are reviewed by independent experts outside the editorial office and based on their opinions are qualified or not for publication. Please be informed that if the author decides not to publish the work, which was already accepted and paid, the fee paid will not be returned for reasons beyond the Publisher’s control.




Preparation of manuscripts

• The manuscript should use 12-point fonts, be double-spaced throughout with 2.5 cm wide margins. The text should not be formatted. The text should not contain any tables or figures, but the place proposed by the author should be indicated e.g. Table 1, Fig. 3. The entire body text, including tables, figures, abstracts and references, should not be more than 15 pages. The photograph of the main author should be attached (resolution of minimum 300 dpi, saved as .tif or .jpg file).

• Type of the work, details of the authors and their affiliations, the title of the paper, abstract and 3-6 key words in Polish and English in line with Index Medicus (Medical Subject Heading) should be provided via the Editorial System. The abstract of the original paper should be structured as follows and contain: aims, material and methods, results and conclusions. The body text is attached in a separate file. Do not provide personal data and affiliations of the authors in that file due to the double-blind review process. Tables and figures should be submitted in separate files. The text of original papers should be structured and contain the following sections: introduction and aims, material and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments.

References: References should be given in the order in which they appear in the body text. The references should be given in square brackets. If there are more than four authors, the names of the first three are to be given, followed by “et al.”, title of the work, abbreviated journal title as per Index Medicus, year of publication, volume number and (first and last) pages. Book chapters and monographs should be identified using the author’s surname and initials, title of the chapter, title of the book, the surname(s) and initial(s) of the editor(s) of the book, volume number, name of the publisher, place of publication, year and pages.

References should not be more than 30 for original papers and case reports and 60 for review papers.

Tables should be supplied in separate files; they should contain the title in Polish and should be numbered using Arabic numerals in the order they appear in the text. Information in the tables should not duplicate content in the text. Explanations to the table, e.g. expansion of abbreviations is given in the footnote underneath the table.

Figures and photographs should be attached in separate files, saved as .cdr, .tif, .jpg, .ai, .bmp or .eps files, and have a resolution of minimum 300 dpi. Figures and photographs may be either white and black or colour ones. If the figure (photograph) was already published, the source should be stated and written consent of the copyright holder to re-publication should be obtained. Figures should be numbered using Arabic numerals and be provided with legends in Polish.

Abbreviations should be always explained at first mention (this also applies to abstracts). Other than in exceptional situations, abbreviations should not be used in the title the paper.

Results of laboratory tests and appropriate norms and standard deviations should be given in units of the International System of Units.

Authors are obliged to submit the manuscript and attach:
- cover letter containing a representation to the effect that: 1) all authors listed have read the manuscript and approved its submission for publication; 2) the head of the institution in which the work has been prepared accepts its submission for publication; the cover letter should be submitted via the Editorial System;
- completed publication agreement which transfers copyrights to the Publisher and contains the authors’ representation to the effect that: 1) they hold full copyrights to the work, including rights or licences to publish all photographs, figures and tables etc. contained in the work; 2) they have not transferred copyrights to the work to any other entity and they have not granted any licence to publish the work to any entity; 3) the article is original and free from legal defects; 4) the article has not published yet; 5) the agreement does not violate any third party rights, including rights of the institution that employs the authors or institutions the authors collaborate with on any legal basis. The authors declare no conflict of interest or disclose a potential conflict. A model agreement is available on the website of the journal.
It can be also downloaded via the Editorial System when submitting the manuscript. A completed and signed copy of the agreement should be submitted via the Editorial System or sent by facsimile or post to the Publisher’s address.

Ethical requirements

• Submission of a paper describing experiments on humans means that the authors represent that the procedures used conform to the requirements of the Declaration of Helsinki (on nursing and doctor ethics prohibiting the disclosure of the patient’s name and surname, initials or hospital records number) and ethical standards established by the respective Ethics Committee.

• The journal applies procedures to secure the original nature of the scientific publications in line with criteria of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). Therefore, the contribution of each author must be specified, including who is the author of the study concept, assumptions, methods, study protocol etc., and also the affiliation of each author must be stated. Rules of paper publication
• The Editors observe the highest standards of scientific publication and the cooperation with the authors is based on transparency of information on the actual contribution of persons/institutions in the development of the publication. All cases of ghost-writing and guest authorship will be subject to customary penalties as an indication of scientific misconduct.
• Manuscripts submitted to the Editors are assessed by reviewers. The Editors select reviewers taking into account the topic presented in the article to be printed. Detailed rules of reviewing are presented on the journal website (http://www.termedia.pl/Czasopismo/-50); these rules comply with the guidelines of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (http://www.nauka.gov.pl/). The Editors reserve the right to make language corrections without consulting the author. Other changes are consulted with the authors. The Editors send the authors the manuscript for final approval and provision of any comments within three days.
