Introduction
Determining the level of knowledge of nurses and midwives of the Specialist Hospital in Kościerzyna on the prevention of breast cancer.

Material and methods
The research material consisted of 111 nurses and midwives. The research was conducted in the period from January to March 2020. The research was approved by the Independent Bioethics Committee for Scientific Research at the Medical University of Gdańsk, no. NKBBN/723/2019-2020.A research method in the form of a diagnostic survey was used. A research technique was used in the form of a self-authored questionnaire. All statistical calculations were performed using the IBM SPSS 23 statistical package and the Excel 2016 spreadsheet. The significance of differences between more than 2 groups was checked by the KruskalWallis test and by the one-way ANOVA (in the case of obtaining significant differences, Bonferroni’s post hoc tests were used, and between the 2 groups by the Mann-Whitney and t Student’s U test). Correlation analysis was performed by calculating Spearman’s correlation coefficients. In all calculations, the level of significance was p ≤ 0.05.

Results
The knowledge of nurses and midwives on the prevention of breast cancer was average.

Conclusions
A higher level of knowledge about breast cancer prevention is possessed by nurses and midwives with higher education, working in surgical wards, and with more than 5 years of work experience. Further research should be undertaken to assess the level of knowledge on the prevention of breast cancer among midwifery and nursing staff, which will improve education, prevention, and treatment.
