Aim The study analyses the role of nurses in the care of elderly patients with chronic diseases. One of the key medical and economic challenges is the increasing prevalence of these conditions, long-term treatment, systemic care, and preventive measures in the senior population. The aim of the study was to examine the role and scope of nursing care for older adults with chronic diseases. Material and methods: The research was conducted using a diagnostic survey method in a group of 60 elderly patients. The assessment included nursing needs, independence, therapeutic adherence, and the subjective evaluation of care quality. A questionnaire, the ACDS scale, and the WHOQOL-BREF Results Most patients evaluated the quality of nursing care positively. A longer duration of illness correlated with greater functional limitations. The most common nursing activities are medication administration, health monitoring, and assistance with hygiene. Moderate adherence was observed, along with the need for better access to staff and more individualized care. Conclusions In conclusion, our study show that elderly people who suffer from chronic diseases have high nursing needs requiring comprehensive care. Therefore, there is a need for further actions aimed at improving the quality of life and the effectiveness of nursing care in this group of patients. |
